Cider Pork Chop Dinner Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 medium onion, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 tbsp olive or vegetable oil
  • 1 small turnip or rutabaga, peeled & cubed
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsps all-purpose flour
  • 1 large carrot, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 c apple cider
  • 4 bone-in pork loin chops, 1 inch thick
  • 4 medium red potatoes, cubed
  • 3/4 c half-and-half cream

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine the thyme, salt & pepper; rub over both sides of pork chops.
  • Step #2 In a large skillet over med-heat/flame, brown the chops in oil on both sides.
  • Step #3 Remove & set aside.
  • Step #4 Add cider to the pan, stirring to loosen any browned bits.
  • Step #5 Add the potatoes, carrot, onion, turnip & pork chops.
  • Step #6 Bring to a boil.
  • Step #7 reduce heat; cover & let simmer for 1 hr or until meat juices run clear & vegetables are tender, stirring every once in awhile.
  • Step #8 Transfer pork chops & vegetables to a serving platter & keep warm.
  • Step #9 for gravy, uncovered, bring the pan juices to a boil; cook, until reduced to 3/4 c.
  • Step #10 In a small bowl, mix the flour, nutmeg & cream until smooth.
  • Step #11 stir in theto reduced liquid.
  • Step #12 Bring to a boil; cook & stir for 2 mins or until thickened.
  • Step #13 serve this with meat & vegetables.
