Step #1 Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder & salt, & sift together three times.
Step #2 Cream butter thoroughly.
Step #3 add sugar slowly, & cream together until light & fluffy.
Step #4 Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each.
Step #5 Add nuts & raisins & beat well.
Step #6 Add flour, alternately with milk, a small amount at a time, beating after each addition until smooth.
Step #7 Add vanilla.
Step #8 Bake in two greased 9-incb layer pans in moderate oven (375 degrees F.
Step #9 ) 25 mins, or until done.
Step #10 Spread Boiled Frosting (see recipe) between layers & on top & sides of cake.
Step #11 Decorate top of cake with wreath of holly, using pieces of maraschino cherries or red cinnamon candies for berries, & slices of angelica or citron for leaves & stems.
Step #12 Or decorate with poinsettias made of candied cherries.
Step #13 Slice cherries in rings, cut rings in half, & arrange to form petals of poinsettias.
Step #14 If desired, Lemon Butter Frosting (see recipe ) may be used.
