Apple Cake (steamed) Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 c Whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 c Butter or margarine
  • 1 pn Cloves
  • 1 c Pitted dates
  • 1/2 c Raisins
  • 1/4 ts Cinnamon
  • 1 ts Baking powder
  • 1/4 c Date sugar
  • 1/4 c sliced walnuts or pecans
  • 1 pn Nutmeg
  • 2 tb Butter or margarine
  • 1 ts Baking soda
  • 1/4 c Honey
  • 1 Apple; peeled, cored, - sliced about 1/8" thick
  • 1/2 c Water

Directions
  • Step #1 preheat your trusty oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step #2 Melt first 2 ingredients together in a 9"-square cake pan by putting the pan with the ingredients into the oven as it is preheating.
  • Step #3 While the ingredients are melting, mix the next 4 ingredients together & then mix them into the melted butter & honey.
  • Step #4 Lay apple slices in the syrup to completely cover the bottom of the cake pan in an attractive way.
  • Step #5 (You may need more than one apple if you use a small one.
  • Step #6 ) Fill a 1-c measuring c with pitted dates, but don't pack the dates into the c.
  • Step #7 With the dates in the c, fill the c with water, then pour both dates & water into a mixer.
  • Step #8 Add 1/2 c more water into the mixer.
  • Step #9 Now mix till it forms a smooth, thick paste.
  • Step #10 Add the 1/4 c butter or margarine & mix till totally whipped in.
  • Step #11 Put the mixer mixture into a mixing bowl & add the last 5 dry ingredients.
  • Step #12 Mix just long enough to thoroughly mix in all the dry ingredients.
  • Step #13 Pour this batter on top of apple slices and spread evenly in the cake pan.
  • Step #14 bake this at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 mins or till a toothpick inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean.
  • Step #15 When done, remove this from oven & as soon as possible turn the cake pan upside down to empty out onto a serving platter.
