Chocolate Yeast Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c water
  • 1 (.25 oz) package active dry yeast
  • 4 1/2 c all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsps sugar
  • 1/2 c milk
  • 1/2 c semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsps butter or margarine
  • 1/3 c baking cocoa

Directions
  • Step #1 In a mixing bowl, cocoa, yeast, sugar, mix 1-1/4 c flour, salt & baking soda.
  • Step #2 In a saucepan, heat the water, milk, chocolate chips & butter; stir until chocolate is melted.
  • Step #3 Cool to 120 degrees F-130 degrees F.
  • Step #4 Add to dry ingredients; beat on medium speed for 2 mins.
  • Step #5 Add 1/2 c flour & egg; beat on high for 2 mins.
  • Step #6 Stir in enough remaining flour to form a stiff dough.
  • Step #7 Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth & elastic, about 6-8 mins.
  • Step #8 Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top.
  • Step #9 Cover & let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hr.
  • Step #10 Punch dough down.
  • Step #11 Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide in half.
  • Step #12 Shape into loaves.
  • Step #13 Place in two greased 8-in.
  • Step #14 x 4-in.
  • Step #15 x 2-in.
  • Step #16 loaf pans.
  • Step #17 Cover & let rise until doubled, about 1 hr.
  • Step #18 Bake at 375 degrees F for 25-30 mins or until browned.
  • Step #19 Remove from pans to cool on wire racks.
