Step #2 Add all ingredients for the dough except the barley malt syrup in the order suggested by your bread machine manual & process on the dough cycle according to the manufacturer's directions.

Step #4 at the end of the dough cycle, remove the dough from the machine.
Step #5 Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Step #6 In a large pot bring 2 quarts of water to a boil.
Step #7 3.
Step #8 While the water comes to a boil, divide the dough into 8 pieces.
Step #9 Roll each piece into a roll 12 inches long.
Step #10 Make a circle of each piece, overlapping the ends by at least an inch & pressing or rolling the overlap tightly to seal.
Step #11 Let the bagels rise for only 5 mins.
Step #12 4.
Step #13 Add the malt syrup to the boiling water.
Step #14 (The syrup gives the bagels their golden color.
Step #15 ) Lower a few bagels at a time into the boiling water.
Step #16 As soon as the bagels rise to the top, remove with a skimmer or spatula to a lightly greased baking sheet.
Step #17 Sprinkle top about 3/4 tsp.
Step #18 of any of the toppings over each bagel & bake 20 mins, or until golden.
