Step #1 In heavy saucepan, stirring every once in awhile, melt butter over med-heat/flame; cook onions, for about 10 mins or just until beginning to brown.
Step #2 stir in the tomatoes, breaking up with fork.
Step #3 Sprinkle top with half of the salt & pepper; cook for about 3 mins or until slightly thickened.
Step #4 Meanwhile, cut halibut into 6 or 8 pieces; remove bones.
Step #5 Sprinkle top with remaining salt & pepper; place this in greased 13 x 9 inch baking dish.
Step #6 Spoon tomato sauce over top; Sprinkle top with basil.
Step #7 Bake in 450?F oven for 10 to 15 mins or until fish flakes easily when tested with fork.
