Ingredients
  • 1/2 ts Leaf oregano
  • 1 ts Salt
  • 1/2 c sliced onions
  • 2 1/4 ts Quick-rise yeast
  • 1 pn Pepper
  • 1/4 c Catsup
  • 2 c All-purpose flour
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 ts Garlic salt
  • 1 1/2 c Graham flour
  • 1 1/4 c Water at 110 to 115 F
  • 2 tb Vegetable oil
  • FILLING
  • 1 c Tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 lb Lean ground beef

Directions
  • Step #1 May be frozen.
  • Step #2 Defrost in the fridge, on the way to a picnic or in the microwave if you want them in a hurry.
  • Step #3 mix water & yeast in mixer bowl & let this stand 5 mins.
  • Step #4 Add all purpose flour & mix at medium speed for another 4 mins.
  • Step #5 Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board & knead a few times, form into a ball & place this in a well-greased mixing bowl.
  • Step #6 Turn the ball over to grease the top, cover with a cloth & let this stand at room temperature to rise until doubled in volume.
  • Step #7 While the dough is rising, cook the meat & onions over med-heat/flame, stirring frequently, until the onions are soft & the meat is browned.
  • Step #8 Drain.
  • Step #9 Discard fat & juice, return meat & onions to the pan.
  • Step #10 Add tomato sauce, catsup, Spice uping & cook over med-heat/flame until the meat is dry with no noticeable liquid.
  • Step #11 Set meat mixture aside to cool until dough is ready.
  • Step #12 After the dough has doubled in volume, transfer it to a lightly floured working surface.
  • Step #13 Knead lightly.
  • Step #14 Form into a roll & cut into 12 equal portions.
  • Step #15 Form each portion into a little ball, cover with a cloth & let rest for 10 mins.
  • Step #16 Roll each ball out to form a circle 5 to 6 inches across.
  • Step #17 Put about 1/4 c of the meat mixture in the center of the circle.
  • Step #18 Pull the dough up around the filling & press together at the top.
  • Step #19 Place on a well greased cookie sheet, cover with a cloth & let this stand about 30 to 40 mins at about room temp or until doubled in volume.
  • Step #20 bake this at 350 F for 40 to 45 mins or until lightly browned & firm.
  • Step #21 Serve hot, using 1 sandwich per serving, or put in the fridge or freeze to be used later.
  • Step #22 1 sandwich - 293 cal, 9 grams fat, 21 grams protein, 2 lean meat exchanges 27 grams carbohydrate, 2 bread, 574 mg sodium.
  • Step #23 Low-sodium diets: Omit salt & garlic salt.
