Maple Bran Muffins Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 ts Salt
  • 5 tb Shortening
  • 2 c Sifted flour
  • 3 ts Baking powder
  • 2/3 c Milk

Directions
  • Step #1 Sift flour with baking powder & salt.
  • Step #2 Cut in shortening until mixture is as fine as corn meal.
  • Step #3 Add milk, mixing until a soft dough is formed.
  • Step #4 Knead lightly on floured board for about 20 seconds.
  • Step #5 Roll to about 1/4 inch thickness & spread well with soft butter.
  • Step #6 Now spread one half of the dough very generously with maple sugar which has been scraped from the pail.
  • Step #7 Fold the other half of buttered dough over the sugared half.
  • Step #8 Cut in 1 inch squares & place thightly together in buttered baking pan.
  • Step #9 Bake quickly in 450 F.
  • Step #10 for 15 mins.
