Dilly Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 (.25 oz) package active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 pinch white sugar
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 c cottage cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsps white sugar
  • 2 tsps dill seed
  • 1 tbsp margarine, melted
  • 1 tbsp margarine
  • 2 1/4 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp dried minced onion
  • 1/4 c warm water
  • 1 egg

Directions
  • Step #1 Stir the yeast into the warm water, & add a pinch of sugar.
  • Step #2 Set aside to proof.
  • Step #3 In a large saucepan, warm the cottage cheese & margarine until the fat is melted.
  • Step #4 Remove from heat, dill seed, salt, onion flakes, & add sugar, & soda.
  • Step #5 Mix in egg & dissolved yeast.
  • Step #6 Stir in flour for a stiff dough.
  • Step #7 Place dough in a greased bowl, & turn several times to thoroughly coat.
  • Step #8 Let rise until double in size in a warm place, usually 50 to 60 mins.
  • Step #9 Stir the dough until it is deflated.
  • Step #10 Place into an 8 inch round, buttered 2 quart casserole.
  • Step #11 Let rise 30 to 40 mins in a warm place.
  • Step #12 Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 40 to 50 mins until golden brown.
  • Step #13 Brush top this with melted margarine.
  • Step #14 Sprinkle top lightly with salt.
