Ingredients
2 c Whipping cream
3 Bananas
MERINGUE:
6 oz Semisweet chocolate
2 tb Butter
1 c Granulated sugar
1/2 ts Vanilla
1 pn Cream of tartar
3 tb Orange liqueur
4 Egg whites
3 tb Icing sugar
Directions
Step #1 A centerpiece dessert, this inventive trifle mixs the classic tastes of ripe bananas & rich chocolate.
Step #2 You can freeze the crumbled meringues ahead of time, but assemble the trifle no longer than 4 hrs before serving.
Step #3 MERINGUES: In bowl, beat egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks form;slowly beat in sugar until stiff peaks form.
Step #4 Beat in vanilla.
Step #5 Onto a foil-lined baking sheet, spoon mixture into 2 inch rounds.
Step #6 Bake in 250 F oven for 2 hrs.
Step #7 Let cool; break each round into 3-4 pieces.
Step #8 Set aside.
Step #9 In bowl, whip cream; slowly beat in sugar.
Step #10 Fold in orange liqueur.
Step #11 In top of double boiler over hot, not boiling, water, or in microwaveable dish, melt chocolate with butter; let cool slightly.
Step #12 Cut bananas into 1/2 inch thick slices.
Step #13 Spoon one third of the whipped cream into 8-10 c serving bowl.
Step #14 Cover with 1/3 of the meringue pieces; drizzle with 1/3 of the chocolate.
Step #15 Cover with half of the bananas.
Step #16 Repeat with whipped cream, meringues, chocolate & bananas.
Step #17 top this with remaining whipped cream, then meringues, then chocolate.
Step #18 put in the fridge until serving.
Step #19 Makes 8-10 servings.
