Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 ts Baking powder
  • 1 tb Melted butter
  • 1/2 ts Salt
  • 3/4 c Granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 c All-purpose flour
  • 1 c Milk
  • 2 Eggs, beaten
  • 1 ts Lemon extract
  • 1 c Dates, sliced
  • 1/4 ts Ground nutmeg

Directions
  • Step #1 Yield: 3 to 4 dozen doughnuts Vegetable oil or shortening for deep-frying In a bowl, mix beaten eggs, sugar & melted butter; beat well.
  • Step #2 In another bowl, mix flour with baking powder, salt & nutmeg.
  • Step #3 Fold in dates.
  • Step #4 Add dry ingredients to egg mixture alternately with milk & lemon extract.
  • Step #5 Heat oil in deep-fat fryer to 375 deg F.
  • Step #6 Drop batter by tbspfuls, 2 or 3 at a time, about 3 mins frying time, into hot oil & fry until crisp & brown, turning once.
  • Step #7 Drain on paper towels.
