Ingredients
1/2 ts Vanilla
1 c Sugar
1 c Butter or margarine
1/2 c Broken pecans
6 oz Pkg. mixed dried fruit bits
1 tb Light corn syrup
3 tb Water
8 c Popped popcorn
Directions
Step #1 Remove all unpopped kernels from popped corn.
Step #2 Place popcorn in a buttered 17x12x2-inch baking pan.
Step #3 Keep popcorn warm in a 300F degree oven while making syrup mixture.
Step #4 Butter the sides of a heavy 2-quart saucepan.
Step #5 In the saucepan mix the butter or margarine, sugar, water, & corn syrup.
Step #6 Bring mixture to boiling over med-heat/flame.
Step #7 Cook for 8 to 10 mins, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon to dissolve the sugar.
Step #8 Avoid splashing mixture on sides of pan.
Step #9 Carefully clip candy thermometer to side of pan.
Step #10 Cook & stir mixture over med-heat/flame till thermometer registers 255 degrees, hard-ball stage (10 to 15 mins).
Step #11 The mixture should boil at a moderate, steady rate over the entire surface.
Step #12 Remove saucepan from heat; remove candy thermometer.
Step #13 Quickly add pecans & vanilla; stir till mixd.
Step #14 Pour mixture over the popcorn, toss carefully to coat.
Step #15 Bake, uncovered, in a 300F degree oven for 15 mins.
Step #16 Remove popcorn from oven; stir in the fruit bits.
Step #17 Bake, uncovered, for 5 mins more.
Step #18 Turn popcorn mixture onto a large piece of foil.
Step #19 Cool mixture completely.
Step #20 Serve as soon as possible or store, tightly covered, in a cool, dry place.
Step #21 Makes about 22 (1/2 c) servings.
