Butterscotch Bran Nut Squares Recipe

Ingredients
  • 12 oz SR flour
  • 4 oz Margarine
  • 1 ts Vanilla essence
  • 1 Egg, beaten
  • 1/2 ts Salt
  • 8 oz Brown sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 Set oven to 350F or Mark 4.
  • Step #2 Grease a baking sheet.
  • Step #3 Melt the sugar, margarine & vanilla essence together in a saucepan very carefully over a low heat.
  • Step #4 remove this from the heat.
  • Step #5 When the mixture has cooled add the beaten egg & mix together.
  • Step #6 Sift the flour & salt into a bowl.
  • Step #7 Make a well in the centre & pour in the cooled egg/fat/sugar mixture.
  • Step #8 Knead into a stiff dough.
  • Step #9 This will be fairly dry, but it needs no extra moisture.
  • Step #10 Roll out the dough on a floured surface into 1/2 inch thickness & cut out the biscuits with a 2 inch biscuit cutter.
  • Step #11 Place on the baking sheet with sufficient space to allow them to spread.
  • Step #12 Bake for 20 mins until light golden in colour.
