Old-fashioned Butter Drop Cookies Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 ts Salt
  • 1 c Firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 ts Ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 c Brandy
  • 1/4 ts Ground allspice
  • 8 Slices day-old bread,
  • 3 c Milk, scanded & cooked
  • 1/2 c Raisins
  • 1/4 c Butter or margarine
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 ts Vanilla extract

Directions
  • Step #1 Cover raisins with brandy; set aside.
  • Step #2 Spread 1-1/2 tsps butter on each bread slice.
  • Step #3 Cut bread into 1-inch cubes; set aside.
  • Step #4 mix brown sugar, cinnamon, & allspice; reserve 3 tsps of this mixture.
  • Step #5 Toss bread cubes with remaining sugar mixture.
  • Step #6 Place half of bread cube mixture in a lightly greased 1-1/2 quart casserole.
  • Step #7 Drain raisins; place half of raisins over bread cube mixture.
  • Step #8 Repeat layers.
  • Step #9 mix eggs, salt, & vanilla in a medium mixing bowl.
  • Step #10 Beat at medium speed of electric mixer 1 min; slowly stir in the milk.
  • Step #11 Pour over mixture in casserole dish; let this stand 5 mins.
  • Step #12 Sprinkle top with reserve sugar mixture.
  • Step #13 bake this at 325F degrees for 45 to 50 mins.
  • Step #14 Serve warm.
