Orange & Cream-cheese Spread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c Whole fresh cranberries
  • 1 c sliced pitted dates
  • 1 c Sugar
  • 2 1/4 c Flour
  • 1 c sliced walnuts
  • & soda
  • 1 c Each sugar & orange juice
  • 1 ts Each baking powder
  • 3/4 c Salad oil
  • 1/4 ts Salt
  • 2 Eggs, well beaten

Directions
  • Step #1 Source: Sunset Magazine, December 1961 Prepared somewhat like Baba au Rhum, this cake is soaked in syrup.
  • Step #2 Sift the flour, measure & sift into a bowl with the sugar, salt, baking powder, & soda.
  • Step #3 stir in the the nuts, cranberries, dates, and orange peel.
  • Step #4 mix the eggs, buttermilk, & salad oil; stir in theto flour mixture until well mixed.
  • Step #5 pour this into a well-greased 10- inch tube pan; bake in a moderate oven (350?) for 1 hr.
  • Step #6 let this stand about 15 mins.
  • Step #7 Remove cake from pan & place on a rack over a pan.
  • Step #8 Heat the sugar with orange juice until dissolved; pour over cake, catching several times.
  • Step #9 Set cake in a deep dish, & pour over remaining drippings.
