Step #1 Cook sugar, salt & corn syrup in 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, milk, stirring constantly, until sugar is dissolved.
Step #2 Cook, stirring every once in awhile, to 240F on candy thermometer or until small amount of mixture dropped into very cold water forms soft ball that flattens when removed from water.
Step #3 remove this from heat.
Step #4 Add margarine.
Step #5 Cool mixture to 120F without stirring.
Step #6 (Bottom of pan will be lukewarm.
Step #7 ) Add cardamom.
Step #8 Beat vigorously & continuously until candy is thick & no longer glossy, 5 to 10 mins.
Step #9 (Mixture will hold its shape when dropped from spoon.
Step #10 ) Quickly stir in the nuts.
Step #11 Spread mixture in buttered 9x5x3-inch loaf pan.
