Step #1 ---SYRUP------ 1/2 c Sugar 1/4 c Dark corn syrup 1/4 ts Ground cinnamon 1/4 c Evaporated skim milk TO PREPARE FRENCH TOAST: In a medium-sized bowl, milk, egg whites, whisk together egg, vanilla, sugar, cinnamon & baking powder until well mixed.
Step #2 Place bread slices in a large shallow baking dish and pour egg mixture over the top; turn to coat evenly.
Step #3 Press a piece of wax paper directly on the bread to cover it, then cover dish with plastic wrap.
Step #4 put in the fridge overnight.
Step #5 TO MAKE CINNAMON SYRUP: In a small saucepan, stir this together sugar, corn syrup, cinnamon & 1/4 c water.
Step #6 Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly.
Step #7 Boil for 2 mins.
Step #8 remove this from heat & stir in the evaporated skim milk.
Step #9 Let cool; transfer to a small pitcher.
Step #10 (The syrup can be stored, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Step #11 If desired, warm before serving.
Step #12 ) TO COOK FRENCH TOAST: Heat 1 t oil & 1/2 t butter in a 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
Step #13 Add four of the soaked bread slices to the pan & cook this until golden on both sides, 2 to 3 mins per side.
Step #14 Transfer the toast to a platter & keep warm in a warm oven.
Step #15 Cook the remaining slices in the same manner, using the remaining 1 t oil & 1/2 t butter.
