Christmas Walnut Toffee Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c white sugar
  • 1 1/2 c sliced walnuts, divided
  • 3 tbsps water
  • 1 c butter
  • 1 (6 oz) package chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp corn syrup

Directions
  • Step #1 Butter a 9 inch square baking dish, & set aside.
  • Step #2 Melt butter in a large saucepan over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #3 Stir in the sugar & corn syrup until smooth.
  • Step #4 Heat to 290 degrees F (145 degrees C) using a candy thermometer.
  • Step #5 When the temperature has been reached, & cook for 3 more mins, stir in the 1 c of the walnuts, stirring constantly.
  • Step #6 Pour into the prepared pan, & allow this to cool.
  • Step #7 When the toffee is cooled, remove this from the pan, & place onto waxed paper.
  • Step #8 Melt chocolate chips in a metal bowl over a pan of simmering water, or in the microwave, stirring frequently until smooth.
  • Step #9 Spread half of the melted chocolate onto one side of the toffee slab, & sprinkle with half of the remaining nuts.
  • Step #10 Allow to cool until set, then repeat with the other side.
  • Step #11 Break into bite size pieces when set.
