Peach Cobbler (southern Heritage Pies & Pas Recipe

Ingredients
  • ---FRUIT------
  • 1/2 c Brown sugar
  • 1/4 ts Nutmeg
  • 1/2 c Water
  • 4 c Peaches, sliced
  • 1 tb Lemon juice
  • 4 ts Arrowroot powder

Directions
  • Step #1 --COBBLER----- 1 c Flour 2 tb Sugar 2 ts Baking powder 1/4 c Shortening 1/3 c Water In a medium pot, mix brown sugar, arrowroot (or use cornstarch) nutmeg & 1/2 c water.
  • Step #2 Cook over a low heat, stirring till bubbly & till it starts to thicken.
  • Step #3 Add peaches & lemon juice.
  • Step #4 Cook only until it has heated through.
  • Step #5 place this in a 1 1/2 quart casserole COBBLER: Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder & a sprinkling of salt.
  • Step #6 Cut in shortening.
  • Step #7 Add water.
  • Step #8 Mix lightly, just till the mixture is thoroughly moistened.
  • Step #9 Spoon biscuit mixture over hot fruit filling in 6 mounds.
  • Step #10 bake this at 400F for about 20 mins.
  • Step #11 May take 25 mins.
  • Step #12 Serve warm.
