Chocolate Cherry Upside Down Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 3/4 c unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsps baking soda
  • 2 1/4 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 c water
  • 1/4 c distilled white vinegar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 c white sugar
  • 1/2 c vegetable oil

Directions
  • Step #1 Spread pie filling evenly in the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch pan.
  • Step #2 In a large bowl stir this together flour, baking soda, sugar, cocoa, & salt.
  • Step #3 In another bowl mix water, oil, vinegar, & vanilla.
  • Step #4 Add these liquid ingredients to the flour mixture all at once.
  • Step #5 Stir until just moistened.
  • Step #6 Pour the batter evenly over the cherry pie filling.
  • Step #7 Bake in a preheated 350 degrees F ( 175 degrees C) oven for 30 to 35 mins.
  • Step #8 Let cake cool for 10 mins in pan then invert cake onto a serving dish & continue to cool.
