Chocolate Pinwheels Recipe

Ingredients
  • 3/4 c white sugar
  • 2 tsps vanilla extract
  • 1 (1 oz) square semisweet chocolate
  • 1 3/4 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Directions
  • Step #1 Cream the butter or margarine with the sugar & vanilla until light & fluffy.
  • Step #2 Beat in the egg.
  • Step #3 Melt chocolate chips over a double boiler or in a bowl in a microwave oven.
  • Step #4 Stir until smooth.
  • Step #5 Let cool.
  • Step #6 Sift the flour, baking powder & salt together.
  • Step #7 Add flour mixture to the creamed mixture & stir well.
  • Step #8 Divide dough in half.
  • Step #9 To one half add the melted chocolate & stir until well mixd.
  • Step #10 To Make Pinwheels: On waxed paper roll out each half of the dough into 12x10 inch rectangle.
  • Step #11 Brush one layer with milk & place the other layer on top.
  • Step #12 Peel off waxed paper & roll up like a jelly roll.
  • Step #13 Chill dough thoroughly.
  • Step #14 To Make Half & Half: Make two rolls, 2 inches thick.
  • Step #15 One plain & one chocolate.
  • Step #16 Wrap in waxed paper & chill.
  • Step #17 Cut each roll in half lengthwise.
  • Step #18 Brush cut edges with milk.
  • Step #19 Press plain & chocolate halves together to make rolls.
  • Step #20 Wrap in waxed paper & chill again.
  • Step #21 Slice cookies thinly & bake in a preheated 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) oven for 8 to 10 mins.
