Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 onion, sliced into rings
  • 4 russet potatoes, sliced into 1/4 inch slices
  • 3 tbsps butter
  • 3 tbsps all-purpose flour
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 c shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 c milk

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 400F degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Step #2 Butter a 1 quart casserole dish.
  • Step #3 Layer 1/2 of the potatoes into bottom of the prepared casserole dish.
  • Step #4 Top with the onion slices, & add the remaining potatoes.
  • Step #5 Spice up with salt & pepper to taste.
  • Step #6 In a medium-size saucepan, melt butter over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #7 Mix in the flour & salt, & stir constantly with a whisk for one min.
  • Step #8 Stir in milk.
  • Step #9 Cook until mixture has thickened.
  • Step #10 Stir in cheese all at once, & continue stirring until melted, about 30 to 60 seconds.
  • Step #11 Pour cheese over the potatoes, & cover the dish with aluminum foil.
  • Step #12 Bake 1 1/2 hrs in the preheated oven.
