Chemical Apple Pie (no Apple Apple Pie) Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 c white sugar
  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
  • 25 buttery round crackers
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 c water
  • 1 1/2 tsps cream of tartar
  • 2 tbsps butter

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (225 degrees C).
  • Step #2 Roll out pastry & set aside.
  • Step #3 Bring water to a boil in a large saucepan.
  • Step #4 In a small bowl mix together sugar & cream of tartar.
  • Step #5 Add mixture to boiling water.
  • Step #6 Stir, then add crackers, one at a time.
  • Step #7 Boil for 3 mins, but do not stir.
  • Step #8 Pour cracker mixture into pastry-lined pie pan.
  • Step #9 Sprinkle top crackers with cinnamon & dot with butter or margarine.
  • Step #10 Cover with top pastry.
  • Step #11 Seal edges & cut steam vents in top.
  • Step #12 Bake in preheated oven for 30 mins, until crust is golden brown.
  • Step #13 May need to cover top pastry partway through baking to prevent overbrowning.
