Cornish Pastiei Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 tsps salt
  • 1/2 c sliced onion
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsps butter
  • 1 recipe pastry for a (10 inch) double crust pie
  • 1/2 lb round steak, thinly sliced & cut in 1/2 inch pie
  • 2 c thinly sliced potatoes

Directions
  • Step #1 Divide pastry in three equal parts.
  • Step #2 Roll 1/3 to make 8x15 inch rectangle.
  • Step #3 Trim edges & cut to make two 7-inch squares.
  • Step #4 Place on baking sheet.
  • Step #5 Repeat with other two thirds of pastry.
  • Step #6 Arrange layer of potatoes on half of each pastry square, top this with layer of onion & then with meat.
  • Step #7 Sprinkle top with salt & pepper & dot with butter.
  • Step #8 Moisten pastry edges with cold water & fold over to make triangles; press edges together to make tight seal.
  • Step #9 A tight seal retains steam & makes juicy pastries.
  • Step #10 Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 1 hr or until meat is tender.
  • Step #11 Serve hot with chili sauce, ketchup, or pickle relish or serve cold for sandwiches.
