Doreen's Superbowl Sandwiches Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 c shredded cabbage
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • coarse salt & cracked black pepper
  • 2 tsps finely sliced fresh garlic
  • 1 egg
  • 2 c shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 2 (1 lb) loaves frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 1 c sliced onion
  • 1/2 c ketchup
  • 1/4 c sliced fresh parsley
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 pinch crushed red pepper

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Step #2 In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown ground beef, & drain excess fat.
  • Step #3 Reduce heat to medium, cabbage, garlic, & stir in the onions, parsley, red pepper, salt & black pepper.
  • Step #4 Cook until cabbage has wilted.
  • Step #5 Remove from heat, & stir in the Cheddar cheese & ketchup.
  • Step #6 Divide each loaf of thawed bread dough into four equal pieces.
  • Step #7 On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece into a 6 inch circle.
  • Step #8 Place about 1/2 c of the beef mixture onto the center of each one.
  • Step #9 Carefully pinch together the edges to seal.
  • Step #10 Place buns seam side down on a lightly greased or nonstick cookie sheet.
  • Step #11 Whisk together egg & milk with a fork.
  • Step #12 Brush the tops of the buns with the egg mixture & sprinkle with coarse salt & cracked black pepper.
  • Step #13 Bake for 25 to 30 mins in the preheated oven, until nicely browned.
  • Step #14 Serve hot with condiments of choice.
