• 1 c sliced walnuts (optional)
• 1/2 c shortening
• 1/2 c buttermilk
• 1 egg
• 1 1/2 c cake flour
• 2 (1 oz) squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 1/4 tsp baking soda
• 1 c packed brown sugar

• Step #1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
• Step #2 Cream brown sugar, melted chocolate, shortening, egg & buttermilk.
• Step #3 Add dry ingredients & beat until smooth.
• Step #4 Drop onto greased cookie sheet & bake for 12 to 15 mins.
• Step #5 Ice with Chocolate Cookie Buttercream Frosting when still warm but not hot.
