PEANUT BUTTER TOFFEE SQUARES This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Truman Estate in Midlothian, Texas in 1987.

Ingredients
  • 4 ounces butter softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup self rising flour
  • 4 ounces butter
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup chopped peanuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 ounces peanut butter chips melted in 1 tablespoon water

Directions
  1. Cream 4 ounces butter with 1/4 cup sugar then blend in flour.
  2. Spread into buttered square pan then bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
  3. Combine 4 ounces butter, 2 tablespoons sugar, condensed milk and pecans in a small saucepan.
  4. Cook stirring until mixture leaves the sides of the pan then stir in vanilla.
  5. Pour over shortbread then cool.
  6. Spread melted peanut butter over the top then cool and cut in squares.
