How to make it

  • Combine all of the ingredients, except the oil, in a large bowl and mix thoroughly. Cover the bowl lightly with a towel and allow the mixture to stand for 1 hour.
  • Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or a skillet with high sides. Drop the dough by tablespoons into the hot oil without crowding the dough, and fry until the bread is dark, golden-brown. Remove the bread from the pan, drain on paper towels, and repeat the process until all of the dough is used up. Serve warm.
  • Yield: 2 dozen bread balls.
