Ingredients

How to make it

  • For jewelry box lid, in bowl knead flour into cookie dough. Between 2 sheets of floured wax paper roll out dough into 1/4"-inch square. Remove top sheet of paper. Cut 7" x 6 1/2" rectangle from dough, discarding scraps. Refrigerate rectangle on paper until firm. Preheat oven to 350°F. Invert rectangle onto ungreased baking sheet; remove paper. Bake 15 minutes. Cool on pan on rack 5 minutes. Remove from pan; cool on rack.
  • In bowls tint 1 1/2 cups frosting pink and 1 1/2 cups frosting purple with coloring. Put remaining frosting in plastic storage bag with corner snipped.
  • Trim top and sides of poundcakes to form straight-sided rectangles. Wrap 8" square heavy cardboard with foil. Stack cakes, attaching to each other and cardboard with pink frosting.
  • Spread sides of cake with remaining pink frosting; spread tops with some of the purple frosting.
  • For compartments, press wafers into frosting around upper and lower edges of cakes trimming to fit with a serrated knife. Press more wafers into icing as compartment dividers, trimming to fit.
  • Pipe lines of white frosting in decorative pattern over edges where frosting and wafers meet, on corners and along top edges of wafers.
  • To attach jewelry box lid, spread 1 side of cookie rectangle with purple frosting. Pipe white frosting in decorative pattern around edge of cookie. Gently press frosted side of cookie against high back side of cake so that the long sides of cookie are vertical. Insert skewers through the back of cookie into cake to support.
  • For jewelry box lock, cut chew candy in half. Form 1 half into rectangle to make bottom part of lock; with toothpick make hole in center for keyhole. Cut remaining half into 2 pieces. Form 1 piece into rectangle and remaining piece into half circle. Press pieces together to form top half of lock. Press into frosting on lid. Attach keyholed rectangle to box with toothpick. Decorate lock halves with piped lines of white frosting.
  • Fill box with candy jewelry; attach figurine.
