Baked Beans and Gammon

- 1 smoked gammon ham shopping list
- 800g tinned beans (borlotti, haricot or similar) shopping list
- 1 garlic clove, crushed shopping list
- 1 onion, finely chopped shopping list
- 140ml vegetable stock shopping list
- 300ml passata shopping list
- 2 tablespoons molasses, treacle or syrup shopping list
- 1 tablespoon soft dark brown sugar shopping list
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard shopping list
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar shopping list
- black pepper shopping list
How to make it
- Optional: soak the gammon overnight in cold water.
- Preheat the oven to 170C (gas mark 3).
- Wash the gammon, then pat dry with kitchen roll.
- Put the the gammon and all the other ingredients in a large, flameproof casserole dish.
- Bake in the oven for 1.5 hours.
- Remove the lid and cook for an additional 30-45 minutes, until the sauce is starting to thicken.
- Remove and slice the ham (you can give the sauce a blast on the hob to reduce it further it this point if necessary).
- Serve with fresh toast or ask your wife to make some rolls to go with it.
- Eat with friends.
