How to make it

  • Add all ingredients, except potatoes, to a 6-qt Dutch oven; bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and put on a vented lid; cook for 2 or 3 hours.
  • Add potatoes during last 45 minutes of cooking
  • Adjust seasonings.
  • Serve with biscuits or cornbread.
  • NOTE: As an alternative, this can be made with several ham hocks or a desalinated corned beef brisket, in place of the ham.
