How to make it

  • Cream sugar and eggs.
  • Add the baking soda and cocoa to the sifted flour.
  • Sift again.
  • Alternate flour mixture and buttermilk to the creamed sugar and eggs (about 1/3 of each at a time)
  • Blend well.
  • Add crisco, vinegar, vanilla and red food coloring (the vinegar will make the mixture sizzle that's normal).
  • Mix well.
  • Grease 3 round baking pans (not bundt)
  • Bake at 325 for 35 minutes
  • Cake should be "bouncy" when done baking do not use a toothpick for doneness it will make the cake collapse.
  • Cool on wire racks
  • Frost with the cream cheese frosting.
