Classic Tomato Sauce (Gravy)

- 2 Tablespoons of olive oil shopping list
- 4 cloves of garlic, finely chopped shopping list
- 3 cans (28 oz.) of whole peeled tomatoes in juice shopping list
- 3 Tablespoons of freshly chopped basil (or dried) shopping list
- 3 Tablespoons of freshly chopped oregano (or dried) shopping list
- 3 Tablespoons of granulated garlic (or variation, garlic powder will work) shopping list
- 1/2 Tablespoon of salt shopping list
- 1/2 Tablespoon of black pepper shopping list
- 1 teaspoon of white granulated sugar shopping list
- 1 Bay leaf shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Heat oil in 3-quart saucepan over medium-high heat. Add chopped garlic to oil and lightly brown.
- 2. Place the cans of tomatoes including juice in food processor and blend or add to saucepan and use a hand processor. Blend until tomatoes are not longer whole and mixture is smooth.
- 3. Stir tomatoes and add remaining ingredients into saucepan. Heat to boiling; and then reduce heat to low heat.
- 4. Simmer uncovered for about 45 min., stirring occasionally.
- 5. Use sauce immediately, or refrigerate up to 2 days,or freeze up to 1 month.
