- 1 large onion, fine chopped shopping list
- 1 cup grape tomatoes, halved; or 1 large ripe tomato, diced shopping list
- salt and fresh ground black pepper shopping list
- 2 large garlic cloves, fine chopped shopping list
- 1 lb ground turkey shopping list
- 1/4 cup dry white or red wine shopping list
- 2 - 3 oz. extra sharp cheddar cheese, cut into 1/4 to 1/2-inch cubes shopping list
- 4 large hamburger buns shopping list
How to make it
- Heat 2 tbs oil in nonstick skillet over high heat. Add onions, and tomatoes with generous sprinkles of salt and pepper. Saute over high heat; stirring frequently, until the onions begin to brown, about 3 minutes. Add the garlic and saute for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Scoop half the onion mixture into a large bowl and the rest into a small one. Rinse skillet and dry it.
- Add to a large bowl the turkey, 1/4 tsp salt. 1/8 tsp pepper, and the wine. Blend well, and shape into 4 balls. Make a deep whole in each with thumb and insert 1/4 of the cheese into each hole. Pinch hole closed, and flatten balls to 3/4 -1-inch thick patties. Patties should be soft and sticky.
- heat remaining 2 tbs olive oil in same skillet over medium-high heat. Sear burgers for 30 seconds on each side. Turn carefully.
- Lower heat to medium-low and cook for 5 min. per side. Serve on buns with reserved onions.
