How to make it

  • Rub salt into meat. Brown meat in oil in Dutch oven.
  • Add buttermilk, water, vinegar, sliced onion, bay leaf, & peppercorns. Bring to boil.
  • Cover & let simmer very slowly till tender, 2-21/2 hr.
  • Add potatoes, carrots & small onions.
  • Season w salt & cook, covered, 20m.
  • Serve gravy with meat, thickened with flour.
