How to make it

  • Mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Set aside
  • In a large mixing bowl beat the butter until softened
  • Add the sugar
  • Beat until fluffy
  • Add the butter/sugar mixture to the flour mixture.
  • Beat to mix
  • Add the egg and the almond extract.
  • Mix together
  • Divide the dough into flour equal parts and form each one into a 12 inch roll
  • Place two of the rolls 4 to 5 inches apart onto a non-greased cookie sheet
  • Flatten the dough so it is about 3 inches wide
  • Repeat with the last two rolls
  • Brush with the milk
  • Sprinkle with the sliced almonds
  • Bake at 325 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes
  • Edges should be slightly browned
  • Cut into 1-inch diagonal strips while the bars are still warm
  • Cool and then drizzle with almond Icing
  • Almond Icing (directions below))
  • Sift together the powdered sugar and almond extract
  • Add the milk to make a thin consistency
  • Drizzle over the bars
