Scandinavian Almond Bars With Almond Icing

- 1 3/4 cups flour shopping list
- 2 tsp baking powder shopping list
- 1/4 tsp salt shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1/2 tsp almond extract shopping list
- sliced almonds shopping list
- Almond icing (ingredients follows) shopping list
- 1 cup sifted powdered sugar shopping list
- 1/4 tsp almond extract shopping list
- 3 to 4 tsp milk shopping list
How to make it
- Mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Set aside
- In a large mixing bowl beat the butter until softened
- Add the sugar
- Beat until fluffy
- Add the butter/sugar mixture to the flour mixture.
- Beat to mix
- Add the egg and the almond extract.
- Mix together
- Divide the dough into flour equal parts and form each one into a 12 inch roll
- Place two of the rolls 4 to 5 inches apart onto a non-greased cookie sheet
- Flatten the dough so it is about 3 inches wide
- Repeat with the last two rolls
- Brush with the milk
- Sprinkle with the sliced almonds
- Bake at 325 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes
- Edges should be slightly browned
- Cut into 1-inch diagonal strips while the bars are still warm
- Cool and then drizzle with almond Icing
- Almond Icing (directions below))
- Sift together the powdered sugar and almond extract
- Add the milk to make a thin consistency
- Drizzle over the bars
