Ingredients

How to make it

  • ~ For the Basic Buttercup Cake ~
  • Grease and flour down 2 (9-inch) round baking pans...set them aside for now.
  • Stir together the flour, baking powder and salt...set it aside for a bit.
  • Beat sugar and butter at medium speed, scraping down the sides of the bowl occasionally, until creamy.
  • Add 1 egg at a time...beat well after each addition.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Reduce speed to low.
  • Add flour mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition...just until mixed.
  • Divide the butter batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  • Bake for about 34 minutes at 350 degrees,or until a pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool on racks for 10 minutes.
  • Loosen edge by running knife around inside edge.
  • Carefully...remove cake from pans...cool completely.
  • ~ For the Fill In ~
  • Mix sugar,flour,salt...slowly stir in milk.
  • Cook and stir till it boils and thickens..then cook 2 more minutes longer.
  • Stir a bit of the hot mixture into eggs, then stir into remaining hot mixture.
  • Stirring this all the while...Bring just to the boiling point, and add the vanilla,butter...stir...cool.
  • ~ For The Topper ~
  • Beat the butter until fluffy, about 30 seconds.
  • Stop the machine and add the confectioner's sugar, milk, and vanilla.
  • Blend on low until the sugar is incorporated, about 1 minute.
  • Increase the speed and beat until light and fluffy, about 1 minute.
  • If the frosting seems to stiff, you may need to add a bit more milk...other then that...you're pretty much ready to go... and frost your Buttercup cake,on the top and sides, after it has had the filling placed in between the two.
  • ~ Now... you have two ways to go here: One...A tall glass of cold healthy calcuim enriched milk,or...Two...A cup of Steaming Hot Jet Fueled Caffeine Laden Coffee, cream and sugar,of course.~
  • ~ Your burning daylight, set down a spell...here,let me slice you a piece...My Grandma and Mom taught me how to bake 'Buttercup' and through the years it's been hard to resist...Here,you might need a napkin.~
  • Now...come on Guys and Gals...you know I'm just funin' ya'...Don't ya' ?
