How to make it

  • Trim fat from round steak and reserve. Cut meat diagonally across the grain in very thin strips. Heat fat in skillet until there is approximately 3 T. melted fat. (I don't do this. I have added the 3 T. oil in the above ingredients to compensate for this.) Remove trimmings.
  • Brown meat. Add water and mushrooms with liquid. Stir in onion soup mix. Heat to boiling.
  • Blend sour cream and flour. Add to meat mixture and cook and stir until mixture thickens. The sauce will be a bit thin.
  • Serve over noodles.
  • I have used this for a base for years and modified it to suit my mood of the day. Sometimes I use a little more sour cream, sometimes I use a lot. Sometimes I used condensed onion soup and decrease the water a little. Sometimes I use more flour, sometimes I use less. It turns out a little differently for me each time I make it.
