How to make it

  • The mince should be browned in a frying pan over a medium heat along with the chopped onions. Remove from the heat and drain any excess oil. Add the liquidized or chopped carrots depending on your own preference. Add the stock or gravy mixture and return to the heat. Bring to the boil and then turn down the heat and gently simmer for about thirty minutes after ten minutes at the doughballs if your having them. Make your mashed potatoes as normal.
  • for doughballs:
  • Mix the dry ingredients and add enough water to make a stiff dough. The mixture is too sticky to roll into balls so just use a spoon to make small balls - they will rise so don't make them too large to start with. Place them around the pot or casserole on top of the mince. You should make sure there is just a little more gravy liquid than usual. Place a tight lid on the pot or casserole and simmer gently for 20 minutes.

    Question. What is SR flour? Could I substitute all-purpose flour? Whole wheat flour?
