Easy Potato Soup
From Mamakin00 13 years agoIngredients
- 6 potatoes cut into small cubes (I like to leave the skin on) shopping list
- 12 Cups of water shopping list
- 2 celery stalks sliced thin shopping list
- 1/2 large yellow onion shopping list
- 6 tablespoons margin or butter shopping list
- 2 table spoons chicken bullion shopping list
- 1/2 cup flour shopping list
- 1/2 cup milk or cream shopping list
- dash of oregano shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper shopping list
- 1 tablespoon garlic salt shopping list
- 1 bay leaf shopping list
How to make it
- 1) Boil potatoes until tender
- 2) Sauté onions in margin or butter until slightly browned
- 3) Add in onions, celery, bay leaf, garlic salt and bullion when potatoes are almost tender enough to poke with a fork
- 4) When potatoes are very tender mash some of them with spoon
- 5) Reduce heat to medium, sift in flour stirring frequently
- 6) Add in oregano and cayenne pepper
- 7) By now the soup will become thicker and have a slight brown color, if the soup is still very thin add in teaspoon of flour until it thickens up. Make sure to stir frequently because it will stick to the bottom
- 8) Remove bay leaf, reduce heat to lowest setting to keep warm and stir in milk
- 9) Serve and enjoy! Saltines are optional but will taste good either way
