Simple Syrup

- 6 cups sugar shopping list
- 6 cups water shopping list
- Additional flavorings (if desired): shopping list
- fresh basil, mint, tarragon, sliced ginger, lemongrass, or citrus peel. shopping list
How to make it
- Prepare an ice bath in a large saucepan, combine sugar and the water; bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until sugar has completely dissolved, about 10 minutes. Transfer to a large bowl set over the ice bath. Let stand, stirring occasionally, until syrup is well chilled. Use immediately, or transfer to an airtight container, and refrigerate up to 2 months.
- If adding flavorings: add to the prepared syrup and let them steep while syrup cools. Discard before using or storing.
