How to make it

  • Slightly brown the ground steak in a large frying pan. Stir the tomato sauce into the cooked and drained meat.
  • While the meat is browning, prepare the noodles according to the package directions, drain. Add the butter to the noodles.
  • Thoroughly mix together the cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, bell pepper and scallions.
  • Butter a large casserole dish. Put a layer of 1/2 the noodles, then a layer of the cheese mixture, then top with the remainder of the noodles. Top with meat layer, smoothing it over nicely. You can bake the casserole now, or put it aside and cook it later.
  • Bake, uncovered, at 350 until bubbly and a bit brown on top. This will take at least an hour, or more.
  • This dish freezes well, and is great for leftovers.
