Spiced Kettle Of Beef And Vegetables

- 2 lb stewing beef cut into 1 inch cubes shopping list
- 1/2 c. flour shopping list
- 1 tbsp salt shopping list
- 1/2 tsp pepper shopping list
- 1/2 tsp paprika shopping list
- 2 tbsp shortening or vegetable oil shopping list
- 1 c chopped onion shopping list
- 6 c. water shopping list
- garni ( 1 clove and 1 tsp pickling spices) shopping list
- 3 c. chopped tomatoes shopping list
- 2 c. diced carrots shopping list
- 2 c. diced cellery shopping list
- 3 c. diced potatoes shopping list
- 1 c. peas shopping list
- 1 tsp sugar shopping list
- 2 tsp salt shopping list
- 1/4 tsp pepper shopping list
- 3 tbsp cornstarch blended with 1/4 c. cold water shopping list
How to make it
- Dredge beef cube in mixture of flour, salt, pepper and paprika. Brown in fat on al sides in a large heavy kettle.
- Add onoin and brown lightly.
- Add water and garni.
- Simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.
- Add vegetables and seasonings. Simmer uncovered for 30 minutes or until done. Blend some of the hot gravy into the cornstarch mixture and stir into stew until thickened.
