- • 2 Tb oil shopping list
- • 1 cup onion shopping list
- • ½ bell pepper shopping list
- • ½ cup celery shopping list
- • 1 tsp salt/pepper shopping list
- • ½ tsp cayenne shopping list
- • tsp thyme shopping list
- • 2 bay leaves shopping list
- • 1 lb ham, boiled shopping list
- • ½ lb smoked sausage shopping list
- • 1 lb dried beans shopping list
- • 3 Tb garlic shopping list
- • 8-10 cups of water shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Soak beans overnight.
- 2. Heat oil in large saucepan over medium-high heat. Sauté onions, pepper, celery, salt, cayenne, pepper and thyme about 5 minutes.
- 3. Add bay leaves, ham, and sausage; sauté 5 more minutes.
- 4. Add beans, garlic and enough water to cover beans. Bring to a boil, reduce to medium and simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally 1 to 1 ½ hours. Add water if need be.
- 5. Mash ½ mix against side of pot. Cook another 1 ½ hours (adding water).
- 6. Remove bay leaves before serving.
- 7. Serve with rice.
