How to make it

  • Toss the lemon juice with the sliced apples . ( I core, but do not peel)
  • sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg and sugar. set aside. after toasting the nuts, set aside.
  • The Custard:
  • In a 4 cup pyrex measuring cup, measure the cornstarch, sugar and salt, ; toss to combine. stir in the egg and milk and with a fork or whisk, stir all together until the cornstarch is blended in and without lumps. Zap for 2 minutes in the microwave. Stir, and assess thickness. Keep adding 1 or 2 minutes at a time. Assessing and stirring each time. At the end, let it boil for 1 minute. Remove from oven, and stir in the vanilla. (If it gets too exuberant and almost spills over, open the oven door to deflate. Then continue on the 1 minute ending.) Set aside.
  • In a 1 cup pyrex measuring cup melt the butter. Add the oil. set aside.
  • Game Time: In a 8 X 8 inch baking pan :
  • 4 filo layers (Each filo layer is brushed with melted butter or sprayed with non-stick spray . You want to completely most of the filo layers) Next stack :
  • 1/2 of the vanilla custard
  • SPRinKLE (cinn/sugar0
  • 2 filo layers
  • Half the apple slices
  • SPRINKLE
  • 2 filo layers
  • half of the walnuts
  • sprinkle!!
  • 2 filo layers
  • the last of thecustard
  • sprinkles!!
  • 2 filo layers
  • SPRINKLES of cinnamon sugar!!!
  • the rest of the apple slices
  • sprinkle
  • 2 filo layers
  • The rest of the walnuts
  • SprinKLEs
  • Top with 3 layers of filo sheets, well buttered.(sprinkle in-between the layers if you like!
  • Bake 350 degree preheated oven until golden. 30-45 minutes
  • Serve with cool whip or vanilla ice cream, or? refrigerate .
