Turnip-Raisin Spice Cake

- 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour shopping list
- ¼ tsp salt shopping list
- 2 tsp cinnamon shopping list
- 1 tsp nutmeg shopping list
- ¼ tsp cloves shopping list
- ½ cup margarine shopping list
- 1 cup packed brown sugar shopping list
- 2 tsp baking soda shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 1 cup mashed turnip, cold shopping list
- 1 cup raisins shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and flour a 13 x 9” pan.
- Combine dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
- Cream margarine and sugar.
- Combine baking soda with buttermilk, and add to the creamed mixture. Blend well.
- Mix in the turnip and raisins.
- Add flour mixture to the turnip mixture and blend very well.
- Scrape into pan and bake 40 minutes.
- Cool completely in pan before turning out and sifting icing sugar over cake to serve.
