How to make it

  • For the dough; dissolve yeast in water and add sugar and salt.
  • Let set for 5 minutes.
  • Add egg, butter and stir in flour. Mix well.
  • Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours.
  • Divide dough in half, and press half in a greased 9x13 inch pan.
  • For the filling; Brown the hamburger and onion.
  • Add the remaining ingredients, stirring well, then simmer covered for 15-20 minutes.
  • Cool, then spoon the meat and cabbage mixture on the dough in the pan.
  • Pat or roll the remaining half of dough on lightly floured surface into a 9x13 rectangle and place on top of the meat filling.
  • Bake 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees until nicely browned.
  • Remove and brush the top with melted butter.
  • Cut into squares and serve with ketchup if desired.
