Beer Battered, Panko Crusted Onion Rings

- 1 medium/large size Vidalia Onion - sliced shopping list
- 1-1/2 cups flour shopping list
- 3/4 cup Magic Hat #9 - the best beer ever. shopping list
- 1 large egg - separated shopping list
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper shopping list
- 6 shakes Louisiana Hot Suace shopping list
- Salt to taste shopping list
- 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter shopping list
- 4 cups Panko Breadcrumbs shopping list
- 2 qt Peanut Oil for fryer shopping list
How to make it
- Sift flour into a large bowl. In another large bowl, whisk egg yolks. Mix in beer, butter, cayenne pepper and salt. Set aside 1/2 tcup of flour for dipping the onion rings. Slowly stir the egg yolk mixture into the remaining flour and mix well. Allow the mixture to stand 30 minutes.
- Heat deep fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- In a small bowl, stiffly beat the egg whites. Gently combine the egg whites with the batter.
- Coat each onion ring with flour and dip into batter, then into bread crumbs.
- Deep fry the battered rings, several at a time, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve.
