How to make it

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a deep, heavy-based saucepan until a little bit of banana sizzles and when dropped in it;
  • Add the slices of banana but ensuring the chips stay separate from each other as they fry;
  • In a small bowl, mix together the turmeric, salt and pepper;
  • When the banana chips are beginning to crisp and the edges are golden-brownish, carefully sprinkle over the turmeric mixture;
  • The oil may splutter a bit but stir gently to combine;
  • When the chips are cooked through and golden-brown, remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen towel;
  • Sprinkle over chilli powder, to taste, and serve
