Fried Cabbage

- • 1 lb bacon, finely chopped. shopping list
- • 1 medium onion, chopped. shopping list
- • 2 lbs cabbage, finely sliced or diced. shopping list
- • 1⁄4 tsp. red pepper flakes. Optional. shopping list
- • 1⁄2 tsp. salt. shopping list
- • 1⁄2 tsp. pepper. shopping list
- • 2-3 sprigs fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish. shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Fry bacon until crisp and well browned.
- 2. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
- 3. Add chopped onion to the bacon grease and stir until translucent.
- 4. Add cabbage, pepper flakes, salt and pepper, stirring until the cabbage is coated.
- 5. Add the crumbled bacon bits and cover.
- 6. Cook over low heat until cabbage is tender. Time depends on how fresh the cabbage is.
- 7. Remove to a suitable bowel, garnish and serve.
- You can add bits and pieces to this and I often do. A few small shrimp, some sliced mushrooms, chopped bell pepper, a wee bit of chopped sausage, etc.
